Welsh Lib Dems voice support for Flintshire lagoon plan

The Welsh Liberal Democrats have voiced their support for the Flintshire Tidal Lagoon project unveiled by Port of Mostyn.
The plans published would see a 6.7 kilometre lagoon, stretching from the breakwater at Mostyn to Point of Ayr in Flintshire, constructed to produce renewable green energy.
The project, with a price tag of £590 million, would see enough low carbon electricity generated to power 82,000 homes in the north of Wales. It would also create around 300 jobs during the construction phase, with up to 30 high-skilled permanent posts after it was completed.
The Welsh Liberal Democrats have long championed Tidal Power, leading the campaign for the Swansea Tidal Lagoon and calling for major investment in renewable energy sources to power a green recovery post-Covid.
Chris Twells, Lead Welsh Liberal Democrat Senedd Candidate for North Wales, said:
"As we leave lockdown and begin to look towards the future, we need to be ambitious and be investing in the jobs of the future. This involves moving away from polluting fossil fuels to green, renewable energy production.
“The proposed tidal lagoon in Flintshire is an excellent way to do this. It will create much-needed high skilled jobs, whilst also delivering clean, renewable energy and powering the North Wales economy.
"The Welsh Liberal Democrats have long called for greater investment in tidal power. This lagoon, along with the one in Swansea, would make Wales a world leader in tidal energy and put us at the forefront of a green recovery.

"I hope that we can bring together UK Government, Welsh Government and local businesses to enable this project to go ahead."

Wales Hosepipe Ban – Criticism of Welsh Water Over Large Bonuses While Infrastructure Creaks

Following the news that people in some areas of Wales could face a hosepipe ban this summer, the Welsh Liberal Democrats have criticised Welsh Water for paying large bonuses to its bosses while infrastructure creaks. Data from Ofwat, the Water Services Regulation Authority, showed that 169.9 megalitres/day were being wasted through leakage in Welsh Water’s network during 2020-21. The company also failed to meet its Per capita consumption (PCC) targets which are designed to push for less water to be taken from the environment.
